Shafiq is one of Indias most successful MMA fighters , with a strong background in Judo , Taekwondo , Karate and Kickboxing .He was part of the National Kickboxing team to compete in AbuDhabi and also participated in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships held in Abu Dhabi UAE in May 2007.

He is the undefeated MMA champion in the 65 kg category since 2006. Among his notable achievements is Shafiqs win over "The Cobra" for the COTC title in 2006.
